More Information About Breast Augmentation

Today, the most accurate and reliable results in breast augmentation surgery are performed by using silicone breast prostheses. There are two types of silicone breast implants that we use for these operations. These are round and drop (anatomic implant) implants. The type and size of the implant will be used is determined according to the patient’s preoperative breast size and the patient’s request. While the round implants provide more fullness in the upper part of the breast, drop (anatomical) implants can provide a more natural breast image.

Breast implants can be placed under the breast tissue, under the membrane of the breast muscle (under the fascia) or under the breast muscle. The placement plan is decided according to patient’s breast tissue before the operation and based on the amount of breast tissue. Regardless of which area the breast prosthesis is placed, it is placed under the breast, not in the breast, so the implant is not in your breast. Therefore, it does not prevent our patients to breastfeed if they give birth after surgery.

Breast augmentation is an operation that takes 1.5 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. The implant is placed with a 4-5 cm incision made under the breast. The patient does not need any dressing after surgery. At the end of the operation, we hospitalize the patient in the hospital for one night. On the next day of surgery, we advise our patients who wear sports bra to wear sports bra or a bra without a underwire for 6 weeks. Our patients can return to their daily life 1 week after surgery.

After 10 days of breast augmentation operations, sports activities that do not require arm use can be made, while we advise our patients to wait 6 weeks to back a routine exercise program.

Breast augmentation is the surgical procedure used to increase the volume of the breast or to change the shape of the breast in order to harmonize the bust with the patient’s silhouette. This procedure concerns breasts that are too small as a result of weight loss, pregnancy or hormonal changes.With regard to femininity, breasts that are too small can be complex, especially since we have gone from a 75C to an 80D in ten years. In addition, social media, movie stars, and television stars can also influence women’s desired breast size.
What is breast augmentation ?
Hypoplasia of the breasts is defined by an insufficient volume of the breasts to be in harmony with the patient’s silhouette. It can result from poor development of the mammary gland, pregnancy, slimming… this hypoplasia is sometimes followed by a mammary ptosis (drooping breasts due to a collapsed mammary gland) that can be corrected at the same time.
Breast augmentation surgery is part of cosmetic surgery but also of restorative surgery (it can follow an accident, a disease or a congenital hypoplasia). The procedure consists in the installation of breast prostheses, which will make it possible to modify the shape of the breasts, the gall or the volume. A round or pear-shaped silicone shell is inserted into the patient’s chest. There are several kinds of prostheses, able to be adapted to all types of morphologies. This surgery is possible after 18 years.

Aspirin should not be taken during the 10 days before the operation ;
Discontinuation of oral contraception may be requested in case of other risk factors for phlebitis (obesity, poor venous condition, clotting disorders) ;
The skin will be disinfected with an antiseptic soap or solution applied the day before and the morning of the operation. ;
It is recommended not to eat or drink anything 6 hours before the operation.
Mammography and breast ultrasound may also be required in some cases.
This surgical operation is only possible once the growth is completed (around 17 years). In practice, it may be advisable to wait 6 months before a pregnancy occurs. The surgeon will have to give you a detailed estimate of the procedure. If it is not a remedial intervention, a period of 15 days between the first consultation and the operation must be respected (this is the mandatory reflection period for all aesthetic acts). Before the operation, a visit to the anaesthetist at least 48 hours before the operation is required.

They have the ability to reproduce a natural breast shape (drop or pear shape) but may be at risk of rotation. This risk is exceptional if the surgical technique is correct. Their natural appearance is particularly suitable for thin patients with thin tissues or having little mammary gland, as well as for breast reconstruction.
They allow a more pigeonious cleavage and a more rounded appearance in the upper part of the breasts. In the case of rotation, there is no alteration in The Shape of the breast, the round prostheses being hemispherical.
Anatomical breast prostheses and round prostheses are made up of different products :
The most commonly used breast implants consist of a silicone shell containing a more or less cohesive silicone gel, providing a very natural and pleasant touch. In addition to the natural effect felt at palpation, silicone gel prostheses offer the most aesthetic and harmonious result. Scientific studies have proven the safety of these prostheses: they do not cause malignancies or immune diseases.
Pre-filled breast prostheses with saline (saline) do not harm the body but this choice of prosthesis can sometimes involve slight unsightly waves on the breasts if the skin thickness is too low.
Hydrogel breast prostheses are made up largely of gelated water that is absorbable by the body in the event of a rupture of the shell.
The development of the participation
After performing the general anesthesia, the surgeon has a choice of three ways to place the prostheses :
This route is located in the natural crease of the armpit and can be used for a first breast augmentation. It does not cause scars on the breasts. This should be avoided if the original breast is sagging or distended.
The prostheses are inserted through an incision in the breast groove. The incision scar is best masked if the patient has a ptosis or already large breast volume.

Breast augmentation consultation
Examination and surgeon’S recommendations
Before the operation, the patient meets a surgeon who will carry out an examination to verify various criteria : height, weight, pregnancy, breast-feeding, chest and breast morphology, skin quality, importance of the fat and gland present, musculature… a blood test will be required as well as a radiological assessment according to the age and history of the patient. This interview is essential, it will allow the doctor and the patient to choose the ideal implant for a natural effect.
He should ensure that there are no contraindications to this procedure (history of phlebitis, pulmonary embolism…).
Some recommendations will have to be followed before any operation :
It is recommended to stop smoking at least one month before and after surgery in order not to hinder healing. ;

The prostheses are inserted through an incision in the area of the eyelid. The natural pigmentation of this area allows an ideal camouflage of the incision scar, the color of which blends with that of the areola. This is the preferred route when the patient’s anatomical conditions permit.
By passing through the incisions, the surgeon positions the implants, either behind the gland, in front of the pectoral muscles (pre-muscular implantation), or behind the pectoral muscles (retro-muscular implantation).)
The duration of the operation varies from 40 minutes to 2h30 depending on the implantation route chosen, the disposition of the implants and the existence of an Associated gesture (such as ptosis correction).
The postoperative course
After the operation, a pressure dressing is made to reduce the risk of hematomesand oedema. This bandage will be removed the next day, the patient will then wear a brassiere without reinforcement (for several weeks), which will notably allow to maintain the compresses the first days on the chest.
Pain may occur during the first few days after hospitalization (especially if the volume of the prosthesis is large and the position is retromuscular). Painkillers should be taken for a few days. Other consequences are bruises, swelling, difficulty in raising the arms.…
It is necessary to avoid exposure of Scars to the sun for a few months. Sports activities can be resumed after 4 to 6 weeks depending on their intensity. There may be an edema that will resolve after a few weeks, an discomfort may be felt at the elevation of the arms. The risks of implant movements and infections, which are exceptional, may require a new operation.
Consideration should be given to a five-to ten-day break in service.

Benefits of breast augmentation
Breast volume and shape are improved. Scars tend to be discreet. The silhouette is transformed. A period of two to three months is necessary to assess the final result. Scars are very discreet and prostheses now have a lifespan of more than ten years with the progress of silicone gel (cohesive gel) and implant shell
